Dr. Thomas earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina, where she began her career in cancer research. After a brief stint studying bacteriophages and biowarfare pathogens in industry followed by clinical trials research at UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center, she has resumed her basic and translational cancer studies in the lab of Dr. Michelle Ozbun. I am a faculty member in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, where my research focuses on developing vaccines for chronic and infectious diseases using a virus-like particle-based vaccine technology. I also serve as the Director of Post-doctoral Affairs at the UNM Health Sciences Center. The goal of this position is to help fellows receive quality research training and professional development opportunities, and, more broadly, to serve as an advocate for post-doctoral fellows at UNM.
